From the Kona Airport (to Hawi – approximately 1 hour drive):
Once you leave the airport rental car offices, turn left onto the main airport road (Keahole St/Keahole Airport Rd). Travel until you reach the main highway (Mamalahoa Highway Route #19).

Turn left heading north on Rt. 19. You drive until you come to the end of the road and a stop sign (approximately 26 miles). Turn left onto HI-270/Kawaihae-Mahukona Rd. In about 2 miles you will enter the small harbor town of Kawaihae. The road bears to the right.

Travel approximately 18 miles until you reach the old Hawaiian town of Hawi. Orient yourself at the intersection in the center of Hawi. (Shige’s) gas station on the right side (mauka). Continue on the highway past this intersection, towards Kapaau and Pololu Valley. (But, don’t go that far!)

Just as you leave Hawi, where the speed limit is ABSOLUTELY 25 MPH, go pass the last row of homes (maybe ¼ mile) and you will come to the 35 MPH sign on your right, mauka (“mauka” means “towards the mountain” and “makai” means “ocean side”).

Immediately (only a few feet) in front of that sign is a road. Turn right into it. You will see 3 options; take the center road where the Kokolulu Farm and Retreats sign is. We are the next driveway/gate on the left where another sign that says Kokolulu Farm and Retreats is. Gate will be open. Just inside the gate is a rock pillar that says Kokolulu. You will be able to see our mango colored home on top of the ridge at this point.
From Kapaau way: Head towards Hawi. Turn left into the little lane just opposite the green ‘Hawi Town’ sign (just past the power sub-station (on the left). The new Self-help housing project is the road to the right. Don’t go down there. You will see 3 options; take the center road where the sign that says Kokolulu Farm and Retreats is. We are the next driveway/gate on the left where the another sign that says Kokolulu Farm and Retreats is. Gate will be open. Just inside the gate is a rock pillar that says Kokolulu.
