What is Qigong? Dr. Pang Ming and Zhineng QiGong

Dr. Pang Ming and Zhineng Qigong

The origins of qigong go back some thousands of years and many styles and forms have emerged through time. What they have in common is that practitioners quiet their mind and turn inward, whether doing a movement or a static practice. Some qigong focuses more on physical health, some more on spiritual development; some have specific aims and some bring more widespread benefits.

In the 1980s an important new qigong was developed. It was called Zhineng Qigong. Meaning Qigong for Wisdom and Abilities, most people were attracted to it for its health benefits. In 1997 the China State Sports General Administration published a book on 21 different styles of qigong, which rated Zhineng Qigong as the most effective. Then in 1998 the same organization evaluated eleven qigong styles and again rated Zhineng Qigong the most effective qigong for improving health. Its efficacy drew an estimated 10 million people to practice it.

It is not by chance that Zhineng Qigong is so effective. Zhineng is the first qigong practice based on a fully developed theory, the work of an extraordinary man. Dr. Pang Ming drew on an immense range and depth of knowledge to provide a new understanding of the universe and human beings, one based on both ancient insights and wisdom, and also modern scientific knowledge.

Zhineng Qigong was created by Dr. Pang Ming, an M.D., a Doctor of Chinese medicine, and a Qigong Grandmaster (there are only a small number of Qigong Grandmasters in the world). He studied qigong under 19 different Grandmasters, and in 1979 he developed Zhineng Qigong as a result of his search for more powerful ways to help his patients heal.

This style of qigong was originally developed for use in the world’s largest Chinese “medicine-less hospital”, and is now practiced widely throughout the world. The Wisdom Healing Qigong style (also known as Chi-Lel Qigong) is characterized by group practice, with practitioners “organizing the Chi Field,” a technique to enhance healing.

Dr. Pang has written many books on Zhineng Qigong. He not only created Zhineng Qigong, which is easy to learn and highly effective, but has also written the “Integral Hun Yuan Theories” and introduced the use of the Qi-field to teach qigong and to treat patients.

Zhineng Qigong is a complete integrated system to liberate human energy in all dimensions, ultimately opening one’s heart to the awakening of objective conscience. It also provides us a step-by-step methodology to train the mind/heart; an effective path to take charge of one’s physical health and empower healthy living. Zhineng Qigong finds its roots in the 7000-year-old tradition of folk, shamanic, Buddhist, Taoist and Confucianist traditions – integrating them into a whole with the latest understanding of physiology, psychology and medicine.

Through posture, movement, breath and mental focus, Zhineng Qigong offers a methodology to rediscover the inner medicine – qi, the vital and healing resource within us – and to magnify the exchange between ourselves and nature, enabling us to become harmoniously connected with the infinite creative power of the universe that ultimately is the origin of love, compassion, and the source of all healing.
